Bitterroot

Late May, hot and dry; an intermittent cool evening breeze rustling in the dirt. You hunt for it along the ground, step by careful step.   The beige dirt and grey rocks underfoot in rubble, you find it.  Layers of petals, pale pink, with white curling stamens and orange-brown stems.  Bitterroot blooms briefly in the Rocky Mountains.
